Trying to find any real fishing information in our paper was virtually impossible and I griped about it so much that my son insisted I do something about it. So I have created the FishNet Daily News. It's a place where anyone can find useful fishing information.

Our goal is to make available to all interested parties, good, usable, and reliable information (on a daily basis) about Texas's fishing resources. Boy, this is quite an undertaking and I guess it will remain so for some time.

I grew up fishing with my family where we spent many reunions and get-togethers, in the summers, down on the Rio Grande River south of the small community of Blue Town in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The kids were assigned the "task" of catching perch along the banks of the river, for the trotlines set by our dads to catch catfish. Being kids we were always coached by our Grandma Hickman and some of our aunts. The food at these get-togethers was incredible, the camaraderie was unforgettable, and the size of the catfish that were extracted from this river were astounding. The Rio Grande used to be a clean river.

As I grew a bit older my family also spent many summers at the Alto Frio Baptist encampment just outside of Leaky Texas.

I spent untold hours wading and fishing the Frio River and more than once dodged a swarm of red wasps coming from a cotton-wood tree by jumping in the river.

When I was in Junior High School in Harlingen Texas my dad had a friend named C.L. (Smokey) Boyle. Mr. Boyle and his wife did not have any children and he was always asking my dad if I could go fishing with him. Now Smokey was somewhat of a legend on the Southern Texas coast and the Port Isabel area and most people would have given most anything to go fishing with him. By the grace of God, I was one of the lucky ones that got to frequent his fishing trips.

As I have grown older I have been fortunate to have been able to fish in many parts of North America. I have fished for sailfish off the coast of Mazatlan, I have fished all over Mexico, both freshwater and salt water, and fished in thirteen different states here in the USA. In the near future I hope to accept an invitation extended to me and my wife Judy to go fishing in Canada. I have owned multiple boats both for shallow water and for offshore and I have enjoyed every moment that God has allowed me to fish.

On July the 31st 2003 I suffered a major heart attack and had quadruple bypass surgery on August the 4th. God spared my life and gave me a great testimony as to His magnificent powers and abilities. Many people would have asked “Why is this happening to me and why has God treated me this way?”. I see it a little differently. I think God had something else for me to do and gave me this project. I praise His name for the task He has given me. I hope every person that enters this site finds something to their liking and in some way is helped in their fishing quest. Thanks for reading our publication. May God bless you and may God bless the USA.
