Port Isabel / South Padre Island Fishing Report By: Capt. Jack
Barton June 16, 2007 - Summer is here and so are the fish. Get out early and there's no telling what you might catch. The trout were slow getting here this year but never the less they are here now. It seems that everything is about one month behind the normal. Kingfish are running good and are being caught out the jetties. They should stay around through October. Look for calm days and clear blue water. Redfish are scattered out here and there. Gas Well flats and east of Three Islands are some well known areas to catch reds. I haven't seen too many big schools of reds this year yet but, the next month or two should be good. August through October is usually the best time to find big schools of redfish. In the past it use to be a big deal to catch snook, but they have really made a big come back. If you want to catch a big snook in the thirty plus range, get out early, tie on a super spook and get ready. Snook are not really that hard to catch. I have caught them on just about any lure or bait. Just pretend your fishing for trout.... Topwater lures, soft plastics, live shrimp, even cut bait. You just need to be where they are and when there hungry. Look for snook in South Bay, around the rocks of the jetties, and up and down the ship channel. Capt. Jack Barton |
