Trout release at
the County Park # 2 on the San Antonio River behind the Mission
Espada
The word was out and the date was
set. The Texas Parks and Wildlife was going to release 2500
Rainbow Trout into the San Antonio River. December 28th at 10
o’clock in the morning and the crowds came. Families of fathers,
mothers, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and
grandparents shared a perfect day and enjoyed the great family
sport of FISHING
This event
brought out the news media in force and even included some of
the local morning TV personalities such as the lovely Shelly
Miles of WOAI. The crowds should thank the San Antonio River
Authority and a benevolent couple from San Antonio for the
family fun they got to share on such a picture perfect day. I
think the thing I enjoyed the most was seeing the number of
children that were brought out to fish and especially the young
girls and women that took such an interest in fishing.
Fishing is not just a guy’s sport!
Eight Steps in Catching a Rainbow Trout
#1 Pick your spot and get your rod and reel ready
#2 Select your bait ( corn or marshmallow) and begin to fish
#3 Re-bait but don’t step on rod
#4 Catch the fish and dry it on your pants
#5 Secure the fish with knee and try to remove hook
#6 Rub fish on concrete and step on rod
#7 Fish is dead and now you can remove hook
#8 You can jump for joy and step on your kid’s Sprite before they can get to it
The really great thing about an
event such as this is seeing and knowing that there are still
people that have been blessed with a little more and they are
willing to share so that children and families have the chance
to experience something that is special. It didn’t cost the
individuals that went out and fished anything except some
gasoline but the investment made in human quality by someone
with a big heart was huge. JAH
