Falcon Lake Fishing Report

By:  Robert Amaya

August 16, 2007 - The weather in Zapata during the summer is typically hot and this year is no exception.  We are at 97 degrees with a heat index at 105.  The lake level is at 282.5 and rising.  We've had a 7 foot rise since June.  Water temp. is at 88 degrees, water is stained on the north end due to the rising water and flooded vegetation.   Bass are scattered and are being caught on spinnerbaits, top water in about 2 top 6 feet of water.  On the south end of the lake, crankbaits in the shad color, football jigs in rocky points and ledges in 8 to 20 foot of water.  Also in the back of creeks with spinnerbaits.  Action has slowed down due to the rise in water level, but it should pick up by October.  Fishermen from all over get ready for some awesome fishing all over the lake especially in flooded vegetation and brush.  Catfishing good up the river in the current with shrimp and cut bait and in main lake river channel in about 20 to 30 ft. of water.
