August 3, 2006

April 17, 2007 - On April 5th-9th we went fishing on Falcon Lake Reservoir and had some good days and bad days.  On Thursday we barley had time to fish and caught some small fish on watermelon purple glitter lizards on the Mexican side of mile markers 7, 9, and 10.  They were between 5-12 foot of water.  Friday we went out and it was a nice day with some cloud cover in the morning.  We went out at about 7:00 and got on the lake to our fishing spot at about 7:30 the first fish of the day was a 9 pounder that I caught on a watermelon purple glitter lizard on the Texas side close to mile marker 10 in about 10 foot of water. As the day went on we caught about 10 more fish both me and my dad the biggest was about 7 pounds caught on a mean green red Mag II from zoom bait company on the Mexican side of mile marker 7 and 8 in about 6 foot of water.  The rest of the fish were about 1-3 pounds also caught on mean green red/black red glitter 6 inch lizards also in about 6-9 foot of water.  Saturday we had a northern blow in and we were not prepared for weather like that so we stayed in all day.  On Sunday we went out at about lunch time due to bad weather.  It was about 45-50 degrees when we went out the water temperature was about 68-70 degrees when we were fishing. Throughout the rest of the day all we caught were small bass probably about 14-18 inches and one fish weighing about 5-6 pounds which was caught on mean green red Mag II close to mile marker 7 and 8.  Monday we fished almost all day and caught some of the best fish of the weekend.  We caught about two seven pounders, a couple of threes, and some other smaller fish caught on mean green red Mag II/black and red glitter lizards close to mile markers 7,9, and 10 on the Mexican side of the lake.  All of the big fish we caught about 1 out of 5 of them had already spawned out.  So most of the big fish haven't spawned out yet but the lake levels continue to drop at an alarming rate the lake is at 25.74 foot low right now lets hope it stays in that range for a while to let the bigger fish spawn out.  On the weekend of April 21st I will be fishing Bass Champs at Choke Canyon Reservoir and will get back to you all as soon as I can to inform you on the standings.

February 5, 2007 - On February 1-3 my dad Jaime Vasquez fished on Falcon Lake in Zapata, TX. On Friday the He had most of his fish on Watermelon purple glitter baby brush hog in about 6-12 foot of water and the water temperature was about 60 degrees that day until about 3:00 when a northern blew in and the fishing got really slow he only caught about 8 fish the whole day. On Saturday the fishing was extremely slow and it was really cold the high for the day was in the 50s and the low was about 40 degrees and he had no luck that day, but the following day he changed up his game plan and switched to a black and red glitter 6 inch lizard on which he caught a 10 pound 1 oz bass in about 7 foot of water on the Mexican side of the lake by marker 9 and 10. That weekend he was fishing with some friends from Alice and Tennessee and they all had slow day the whole time they were there but at least they caught some fish.

Overall most of the bigger fish were caught on Black and red 6 inch lizards in about 4-8 foot of water on the Mexican side of the lake and the fish are slowly moving up and getting ready to spawn so get ready for the fish to start biting!!!

December 27, 2006 - On December 13,2006 we traveled to Zapata, TX for an upcoming tournament that the Alice bass club was going to hold at Beacon Lodge and we were invited to participate in the event.

Due to the time of the year fishing is slow but is still okay. You may catch between 10-20 fish a day. The day of the tournament was cold in the morning and then it started to warm up and the fish really started to bite. The water temperature throughout the day was between 64-70 degrees. We were catching them from 6-16 foot of water using a Texas rigged baby brush hog around mile marker 10 and 11 on the Mexican side. By the end of the day my dad and I both came in with a five fish limit. I had 11.47 pounds on five fish and my dad had 10.29 pounds with his fish. 19.8 won the tournament with the big bass weighing in at 9.8 pounds. On Thanksgiving day my dad caught a 9-10lb bass on a Texas rigged baby brush hog with the same conditions as the day of this tournament.

Lately my dad and I have been hunting due to the cold weather and slow fishing at Falcon. At the ranch we have seen some nice bucks in my opinion but only one or two that my dad would have shot. I was lucky enough to shoot a 9 point buck with a 20 1/2 inch spread that I harvested with my Winchester Model 70 270 WSM.

October 29, 2006 - On October 18 - 20 we went to San Antonio to the grand opening of the new Bass Pro shops. Well before that we were in Zapata, TX and we went to Roberts Fish and Tackle and where we met Stacy King, his cameraman, and Terry Oldslan who makes jigs. While we were there I got their autographs and they told us that they were there for the grand opening of the Bass Pro Shops in San Antonio. He also said that a lot of famous fishermen would be there such as Rick Clunn, Jimmy Houston, David Fritz, Tim Horton, and many others. That made us want to go to the grand opening so we got out of school on Wednesday and left straight for San Antonio and made it just in time for the grand opening. When we got there we saw the new Z-9 boat that Nitro had just came out with and that is why so many anglers were there and also for the grand opening. We went around to the boat center and saw all the anglers sitting down one after another and signing autographs. We were gonna get them but the line was about 1 to 2 blocks long and we decided to wait for the line to go down so we saw the whole store and around 7:00 the line was really small so we got in line and got their autographs. Some of them had left already but a lot of them were still there. On Thursday we went again to bass pro shops and it was all over the radio. We got there at about 8:00 and no anglers were there so we waited and around 9:30 most of them were there and we got a big rapala lure and a bass pro cap and got them signed by all the pros. It was the most memorable experience I have ever had. After lunch we left for Zapata because we had to pre fish for a tournament that was on Saturday through Sunday. On the first day of pre fishing we just searched around for fish and our biggest fish was about five pounds which was caught on a fire tiger Norman crank bait at the dam. On Saturday we got on the water at about 6:30 and we could not plane out until 7:15 which was a major rule for O.P.E.C. We stayed on a point at Salanias which is near the dam for the whole day catching some good fish on Carolina rigs in about 15-25 foot of water. After the day was over we came in with 11.07 pounds with three fish which was pretty good because some people came in with below 10 pounds. 24 pounds won it that day. On Sunday there was a cold front supposed to come in and when we got out it was cold and raining. We got on the water at about 7:30 and got to a creek near mile marker 10 and 9 and were flipping jigs in the trees we caught about a 2,3,4 within the first 1 to 2 hours we ended up calling it a day because the wind was really bad and we were really wet especially me. We probably had about 9 pounds. That day 29 pounds won 29 pounds with three fish. That weekend records were broken with the biggest three fish. It turned out to be a memorable week.

September 28, 2006 - Three weeks ago we pre fished for an upcoming tournament with the Alice bass club and we had a pretty good weekend. We had caught most of our fish on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake almost all the time we have gone. That weekend we caught some good tournament fish on baby brush hogs, worms, lizards, crank baits, and spinner baits. My dad caught about a nine pounder on the Mexican side pretty close to mile marker 10 and a chartreuse and white spinner bait. we could not fish with soft plastics that well because the wind was blowing really hard and it was hard to feel if you had a bite. I also caught about a seven on a soft plastic baby brush hog. Over that whole weekend we had caught about 5 big fish weighing at about three 5s, one 7, and one 9. That week we pre fished for the tournament and the week after that we went back for the tournament with the Alice bass club. Saturday was prefishing and overall we had a really good day and we mostly fished on the Mexican side by mile marker 9,10, and then we went all the way to Salanillas which is on the Mexican side near the dam and we found two awesome holes that had some good quality fish. On one spot I caught about and eight pounder and some 3s and my dad caught some dinks and that was about all on that hole. We caught all our fish in there all on Baby brush hogs and lizards. then we followed a boat into Salanillas (because there were so many trot-lines and gill nets running right through the middle of the creek. So we got in and found a really good place and right off the bat we caught a 4, a 5,and a 6. so we decided that we should leave this place for tournament day so we left it. We caught those fish on a Carolina rig with centipedes. On tournament day we mainly fished on mile markers nine and ten because it was raining and thundering. We really didn't do that well so we spent most of the day there and just caught some dinks that were a little longer than fourteen inches. We had a limit of small fish then at around one o clock after the storms we went to Salanillas and caught some good fish i caught a 7 and my dad caught a 6 in the last 30 minuets of fishing time and we had to go back at around 2:30 because weigh in was at 3:00. We caught all of our fish on Carolina rigs and Texas rigs the whole time we were there. I ended up with 15 pounds in total and my dad ended up with 13 pounds, and 22 pounds won it so we did pretty good. Overall we had a pretty good weekend.

August 23, 2006 - This weekend we went to Falcon Lake for some pre fishing for an upcoming Tournament with the Alice bass club on August 27. We fished Sunday and started off at a point close to Mile Marker 11 and caught some pretty decent fish. We were catching them on baby brush hogs, lizards, and worms. We also caught some on crank baits in a hole. My dad caught about a 4 pound fish on a Norman Crankbait. We stayed there for about 2 hours and caught only about 20 fish with a few decent one. Then we went between Mile Markers 10 and 9 and fished on the Mexican side and caught many quality fish. Again on baby brush hogs, lizards, and worms. We fished there for about and hour and left to one of our honey holes and caught plenty of fish with three weighing in about 4 lb, 5 lb, and one 7 lb. We caught these on a point which was about 8 feet on the top and it went down to about 21 feet at the bottom. We were just casting out to the top of the point which we marked with a brush line that ran along this point. We would cast it up there and just work it down. It turned out to be a really good weekend at the Lake.

August 3, 2006 - On the July 4 weekend I competed in the Falcon Lake Hall Of Fame Big Bass tournament, and for those two days I brought in a 3.65 pounds which won the youth division of the tournament. I got a lot of fishing tackle, videos, and many other things. Also during that weekend we took some Skeeter test drives and my dad and I fell in love with them. We were really impressed with the handling, smooth ride, and speed of these boats. They are the best boats out there in our opinion. About two weeks after that we went out and bought a brand new ZX250 with a 300 hp Yamaha outboard. The first time that we drove it we were amazed at how it could handle the rough water and its handling. Overall that was one of the best weekends that I had.

About 2 weeks ago we fished with the Alice bass club and you had a limit of three fish per person and whoever had the biggest sack of fish would get the cash prize. It lasted from 6:30 to 2:00. My dad came in with a little over 9 pounds and I came in with a little over 7 pounds. It turned out to be a really slow day for some people, but our friend Israel Garcia came in with over 22 pounds with a 10,7,and a 6. At the Big Bass tournament at Falcon lake he came in with the big bass weighing in at over 12 pounds.
