Falcon Lake - Jr. Anglers Fishing Report

By: James Vasquez

July 7, 2007 - Last weekend my father and I participated in the Falcon Lake Legends Tournament that was held on July 1-3. The weather we had the week of the tournament was awesome it was cool and we had quite a bit of rain and the lake has been coming up really fast with the rain from surrounding areas. The water temperature of the water through out the tournament was about 80-85 degrees.  On the first day of the tournament we came in with a little over 18 pounds on three fish.  One big bass weighing in at 9.73 pounds that was caught on a watermelon purple glitter baby brush hog Texas rigged.  We were flipping into some willow trees that were in about 9 foot of water near mile marker 7 on the Mexican side of the lake. The other two fish were caught on a Norman DD 22 crankbait on a submerged point around mile marker 9 and 10. There were also some really big fish that we missed on crankbaits and worms that would have put us most likely in the 23-25 pound range for overall weight. On the first day overall we can in 6th place out of 52 teams.  The second day we came in with only a little over 11 pounds.  The places we fished the previous day did not hold any fish like the ones we caught on the first day, but my dad missed some really big fish on a spinnerbait that would have put us in the top 3. the fish that we weighed in mainly came off of spinnerbaits that were in about 4-7 foot of water and the biggest on a crankbait was caught at the same submerged point we caught some of the big fish the first day.  Overall we came in 10 place that gave us a check for big bass the first day and 10th place overall.

Until Next Time
GOOD FISHING,
James Vasquez
