FishNet Daily News - Ladies Kingfish Tournament 2006

The 25th Anniversary South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce Ladies Kingfish Tournament held on August 11-13, 2006 was a huge success.

Friday night’s registration and social included drawings for exciting door prizes for pre-registered anglers, vendor booths, and a buffet served by Jake’s Catering. Early Saturday morning, 263 anglers and 107 boats hit the waterways, returning to the docks before 7:00 p.m. to weigh in over 1,200 pounds of fish. A little brain teaser for you; there were 6,383 inches in fish weighed in. How far would that go?

The Awards Ceremony on Sunday at the South Padre Island Convention Centre brought anglers together to recognize those who took top prizes. 29 anglers received framed original artwork by Dinah Bowman specific to the species they won. Trophies done by Bowman were also awarded for Overall Largest Fish, Grand Champion Bay Division and Grand Champion Offshore Division. Ingrid Steinbach from Brownsville and J.J. Gordon from South Padre Island walked away with 3 trophies each! These girls will need to add rooms on to their houses to hang those gorgeous trophies.

Sponsors of this year’s event were essential in making the tournament so successful. Island Services stepped up to the pier this year as a Corporate Guide Sponsor for the 25^th Anniversary Tournament. The Committee was truly excited to have Island Services join in as the top sponsor of this year’s event.
