Lake Palestine
Lake Palestine in East Texas is one of the most picturesque lakes in the
state. It’s shores are lined with stands of pine timber and beautiful
home sites. SH 155 crosses it twice and you will see numerous fishing
boats as you cross the bridges and pass the marinas. Lake Palestine at
one time was one of the hottest black bass lakes in the South. It is
still a great fishing lake but most of the anglers are after hybrid
stripers, sand bass, or crappie. There are still black bass in the lake
but not in the numbers and not the quality they once were. However
lurking at the bottom of the lake are some trophy size catfish and there
certainly are great numbers of them.
42 lbs. Of Smiles
If you are interested in catching some really nice catfish on Lake
Palestine we suggest you get in touch with some one that really knows
the lake and has a history of success. In our book that would be Mike
Weeks of East Texas Fishing. This would be a great trip for young kids
and they would really get a kick out of catching some of these big cats.
The fillets that are taken from these fish are the cleanest and best
catfish fillets I have ever seen or cooked. They make a tremendous fried
fish meal.
We met Mike Weeks at the Dallas Boat Show where he had a booth promoting
his fishing guide service on Lake Palestine. This is the kind of guy you
like from the very start because your first impression of him is honest
and “down home”. I like him
even more now that I’ve been around him and fished with him. He is
dedicated to satisfying his customers and will guarantee you catch fish
or he will book you another trip for no cost. We have fished with Mike
twice in the last 30 days and each time the weather has been beautiful
and warm the day before but windy with a strong norther and light rain
both days we fished. We still caught some good fish both times and we
look forward to going back. The last time we were there was
Friday, April the 13th before the huge storm that swept across
Texas that night. We
apologized for bringing bad weather with us every time we been there and
he has been very understanding but Mike will probably grab for his rain
coat and long johns the next time he hears that we’re coming to Lake
Palestine.
